Rushridge - Photography and Writing - Dawn Faught
As a freelance writer and photographer, I am fortunate to be able to experience many walks of life. To name a few, I have followed Marines during training maneuvers at their Mountain Warfare Survival Training Center, helped outfitters set up their backcountry camp high in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness area, enjoyed pack trips high into the Sangre de Cristos of Colorado and Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness of Montana and trailed 1000 head of cattle to their summer pastures within the Ruby and Gravelly Mountains of Montana.
I enjoy traveling and seeing new parts of the world - from the sandy beaches of tropical places such as Jamaica and Mexico to the high mountain peaks of the US and beyond. My passion has always been horses and traveling with my "boys" is always a treat. Trail rides, cattle drives, and cutting are at the top of my list of ways to enjoy riding. I train my own horses and enjoy the sense of when that light bulb goes off in a young colt's mind. I'm a country gal who loves the great outdoors, wildlife, sunrises and sunsets.
I started freelance writing as a hobby and it is now a pleasurable career. To support my articles, I delved into the fine art of photography - another growing passion in my life. Equine photography is an art; for the heart and soul of horses is so visually expressed through its eye and body language. Nature photography continually challenges and delights me with the changes of light and season. The human face and body also speak greatly of the places people have been and the stories that can be told through a simple photograph.
Today, I am unlimited in the variety of topics I cover. My specialties include anything related to the equine field, agriculture, ranching, nature, outdoor activities, historical places, shooting sports, personnel profiles and travel. I've been known to say, "I'll try anything once!" and enjoy the challenges new experiences give me…well, except for perhaps sky diving!
I am Published in: Cowboys & Indians, Heartland USA, Western Horseman, AAA Living (Cover photo 2008), Persimmon Hill, Trail Blazer, Trail Rider, Cowgirl Living, Persimmon Hill, Dakota Country, National Wild Turkey Federation, Today's Horse Magazine (including Monthly column - Into the Sunset), ND Horizons, ND Horizons Calendars, Colorado Outfitters, Western Mule, and Draft Horse Journal.
Rushridge - A Family Farm
Dawn and Steve Faught, along with son Kyle, raise corn and soybeans on their family farm near Amenia, ND. We encounter long days and short nights in the spring and fall as we plant and harvest our crops. During the slower days of summer and winter, we spend our days repairing machinery, tending the growing crops, and marketing and planning for the next year.
The slower seasons also allows us a little time to pursue our other passions. My passion for horseback riding led me to freelance writing and photography. Steve's passion for the sport of Bullseye Pistol competitions led him to becoming a National Coach Development Staff Level III Advanced International Pistol Coach for USA Shooting, NRA and Civilian Marksmanship Programs. Kyle recently graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Economics from North Dakota State University. He has returned home to continue the tradition of farming the rich earth of the Red River Valley.
